Style Basics: Interview with Noosa stylist Simone Barter

While her Instagram feed might present an idyllic, laid-back beachside lifestyle, Noosa based interior stylist Simone Barter assures us her real life is anything but. With a busy design studio and young twin girls, her day is filled with client meetings, project planning and spending time with her family.

Simone is the founder of Simone Barter Design Studio, an interior style and marketing studio that evolved from her design blog, Nowadays, Simone and her team help their clients create beautiful homes, along with other creative pursuits.

“We create on many different levels from major marketing campaigns, full interior design and colour selection to creating Instagram photo shoots.

“I still pinch myself and feel very humble with all of our creative projects and interior clients we work with, as the business is exceeding my goals and dreams.”

The design studio has styled some stunning homes, but choosing a favourite is as difficult as picking a favourite child, says Simone.

“I can say I love each for different reasons.

The Glasshouse at Doonan owned by Sarah Waller is so wonderful to style as it has such a stunning design and colour palette. The Brisbane homes in Love it or List it (Foxtel) were extremely fun to style and seeing the interiors transformation that Interior Designer Luisa (Arki Haus) created on the TV screen was a highlight.”

Her most stressful project to date was styling her own little black-and-white house for the cover of Inside Out magazine.

“Nothing like showcasing your own home and trying to get perfect images with my twin girls! Luckily, I worked with photographer Anastasia Kariofyllidis on that photoshoot and she worked her magic to make everything perfect.”

Simone describes her own style as a mixture of old with new; monochrome black and white set in a textured space. Her dream home? A black and white barn.

When she’s not enjoying the Noosa weather or spending time working in her clients’ gorgeous homes, Simone and her family love to get away. For an Easter getaway, they often head to the beach, or somewhere in the country with open spaces.

“Our favourite location is Yamba – my husband and I have been visiting for 20 years.”

And of course, packing is made much easier thanks to her Base Supply bags.

“I have two faves from the Base Supply collection: my dusty rose stash small. I honestly use this as my wallet, as I can throw my phone, cards, lippy, cash and keys as I need a simple, go-to place for all of my bits; and the black big base for work meetings which holds it all from samples, to my laptop, client folders and my small stash. Perfect for my world!”
